Ginene Lewis, President Emerita and Co-Founder, has dreamed of becoming an attorney since childhood. Given her aspirations and interest in community activism, she received her B.A. in Political Science from Spelman College and is a first year student at University of Pennsylvania Law School. She is a member of the highest honor society,Phi Beta Kappa, and the national political science honor society, Pi Sigma Alpha and has continuously affirmed her commitment to scholarship and academic excellence. Although Ms. Lewis has achieved a plethora of accomplishments and accolades, she is most proud of her service to the community. As the founding instructor of the etiquette course, Young Women of Excellence, she dedicates three days a week to nurturing and enhancing the poise, posture, speech, and style of young women between the ages of 9-15 years in professional and personal environments.
Jordan A. Harris, President Emeritus and Co-Founder, at only fourteen years of age, became the youngest gospel on-air talent by landing a job at 1480 WDAS AM in Philadelphia. For the next two years, Jordan co-hosted and co-produced the segment "Friday Night Gospel Jams," while simultaneously serving as Director of Music at his home church Grace Tabernacle Outreach Ministries. Harris has served on the advisory committee for the Philadelphia chapter of the Tavis Smiley Youth to Leaders Conference, and in August 2003 was the co-facilitator for the states of Pennsylvania,New Jersey, and Delaware at its national meeting held in Washington D.C. Jordan's talents were thrust into national and international television spotlights (via C-span) when he appeared as a panelist on the 5th annual Tavis Smiley presents "The State of the Black Union" symposium. His other television appearances were on the Bill Cosby parenting debate and on MTV with Sean "P-Diddy" Combs, SWAY, and the "Real World Philadelphia" cast as they traveled the city of Philadelphia registering people to vote. Jordan holds a Master's degree in Education from Cabrini College and graduated from Millersville University with a Bachelor's of Arts in Government and Political Affairs, and a minor in African American Studies.
Anthony A. Phillips, President and Co-Founder, is a Charles A. Travelli scholar at Bates College in Lewiston, Maine majoring in African American Studies and Philosophy. Phillips studied at Morehouse College as a 2008-2009 visiting student. At Bates, his campus involvement included serving as a student representative for the College Lecture Committee; the Martin Luther King Jr day planning Committee, Diversity Outreach Coordinator, Multicultural Center student representative, president of Amandla!, a cultural organization; and moderator for the African American Studies Club. For his involvement as a chapel assistant at both Morehouse and Spelman Colleges, Anthony was recognized by the Morehouse Maroon Tiger Newspaper as one of ten juniors of the year.
Anthony has interned with Africare, a philanthropic organization that gives aid to countries in Africa. In his second summer through the Smithsonian Institution Minority Awards program he interned with the Smithsonian Institution Anacostia Community Museum, where he worked on a Community Documentation Center project that focused in on researching Houses of Worship in Southeast D.C..
For his efforts with Youth Action, the Tavis Smiley Foundation honored him with their 2008 Emerging Youth Leader Award and the State of Pennsylvania bestowed him with a citation and award for his service. He desires to become a university professor.
Brittany Redfern, Vice-President, is a Sophomore at Morgan State University majoring in Political Science. With a genuine interest in conquering and educating in regards to social issues, Brittany sits on the executive board of Youth Action. She is also a member of the National Youth Advisory Council for the Tavis Smiley Foundation. Her mission is to first educate her community then take steps-not only for them, but with them, to better themselves and their community.
James Jones, Spokesperson, is a recent graduate of George Washington University, majoring in political science and sociology and has just entered the Ph.D. program in Sociology at Columbia University. With a sincere love of politics and community activism, James has worked in the offices of Congressman Chaka Fattah, MAACO Enterprises Inc., and the National Fair Housing Alliance. At GWU, James served as the newly elected Political Affairs Director of the GWU College Democrats, the largest student organization on campus. Driven by the words of Shirley Chisholm "Service is the rent that you pay for room on this earth." James has dedicated his life to serving his community and bringing about substantive change for people of all backgrounds. James hopes to one day be an elected official who can affect policy in the interests of justice and equality.
John Brice, Board Member, is a Senior at Morehouse College majoring in sociological science. John is a former host of the talk radio show "Let's Get Ready to Rumble" on 900AM WURD. The show served as a voice for youth, through youth, and leaders who have a heart for empowerment of young people. He discusses vast range of topics including health issues affecting our African American communities as well
Walter D. Scott-Williams, Board Member, is a 5th year Dual Degree General Science and Engineering Management major representingMorehouse College and Missouri Science and Technology. He has been a Board Member of Youth Action since 2003 and is an original member of the Youth 2 Leaders program. Walter has worked with companies such as General Motors and has held positions in other organizations such as Toastmasters, where he helped students perfect their impromptu speaking and AERO, where he taught youth applied engineering skills. With aninterest in using engineering to make people's lives more efficient, he plans to pursue a career in Automobile Product Development. Walter's ultimate goal is to own his own automobile company.
