About Us Youth Action is a youth led non-profit organization in the city of Philadelphia, founded by young alumni of the Tavis Smiley Foundation at The Catholic University of America in August 2003. Youth Action is committed to organizing programs and events that will encourage young people to become agents of positive social change in their community. Our main focus is to advocate principles that we believe are essential to leading a humane and productive lifestyle.
Our Mission Youth Action, a Philadelphia based youth led community organization, works to empower young African Americans to become socially, economically and civically aware. Through organizing innovative events and programs, that raises public awareness about issues in underrepresented communities, Youth Action is committed to the social uplift of young people.
Our History Youth Action was founded in August 2003 by young African American youth from the Philadelphia area who attended the Tavis Smiley Foundation's (TSF) Youth to Leaders National Summit in Washington, DC. The TSF partnered with Youth Ventures, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting youth led social entrepreneurial projects. At this Summit, the youth were one of four groups that formed project teams to address community issues of concerns. After developing a business plan of their community-focused project (Teenage Pregnancy) Youth Action was awarded a $1,000 grant by Youth Ventures.
Our Vision Youth Action hopes to become the premier youth organization in the city of Philadelphia and the nation. We hope to service thousands of young people and encourage them to become agents of positive social change.
Still growing as an emerging organization in the non-profit sector, Youth Action has proven itself to be a passageway for young minorities to uncover and exercise their political and social voice in American affairs. Through our annual community service projects and continuous efforts towards youth empowerment, the lives of Philadelphians have been mobilized in becoming agents of change and servants for their communities. It is our goal to cultivate an environment where young leaders are able to address issues of their concern and work in an innovative and effective manner.
